HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) will launch its annual “Be Utility Wise” consumer education campaign on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, with a day-long event at the Ambassador Conference Center, 7792 Peach St., Erie.
PUC Vice Chairman Andrew G. Place will kick off Erie’s “Bridging the Gap” conference at 9 a.m. with opening remarks highlighting the PUC’s ongoing study of energy affordability and assistance programs for low-income consumers.
“Bridging the Gap” runs from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., and features discussions on such topics as Universal Service Programs; a LIHEAP 2018-19 Update; 211 United Way Referral Services; Gas Safety; PA Consumer Advocate Services and Consumer Protections.
The annual series of free “train-the-trainer” events brings together front-line community partners, utilities and key stakeholders in highlighting energy efficiency, conservation and customer assistance programs intended to help low-income households maintain essential utility services.
Erie is one of eight host cities across the Commonwealth – including the addition of a Lehigh Valley event – for this fall’s “Be Utility Wise” campaign.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission balances the needs of consumers and utilities; ensures safe and reliable utility service at reasonable rates; protects the public interest; educates consumers to make independent and informed utility choices; furthers economic development; and fosters new technologies and competitive markets in an environmentally sound manner.
